Marie was the first girl that I photographed in the nude.
That was back in 1966, and my motivation to try glamour photography was born out of frustration with the glamour magazines that were available in the UK at the time. Most were pocket size and ironically they were also known as "cunt books," the irony being that in the UK the publication of photographs of girls showing their cunts was illegal. The model's pubic hair, labia and everything else between her legs had to be air-brushed out of any magazine pictures. The best sellers back then were "Kamera" and "Solo" both produced by Harrison Marks and featured girls like June Palmer and Pamela Green, who were stunningly beautiful and had perfect figures, but they were one-in-a-million type of dream girls who it was difficult to relate to ... |

At the other end of the pocket-size girlie book range were "Spick" and "Span" and "Beautiful Britons" which featured ordinary girl-next-door kind of girls showing off their underwear, and occasionally, their tits. Many of the photographs were upskirt shots of the girls just showing their stockings tops, suspenders and panties. But for me, the Spick & Span girls in their bras and knickers were much more erotic than the Harrison Marks nudes with their anatomically perfect bodies and air-brushed pubes. Either way, we did not get to see the model's pubic hair or her labia or her vagina, but it was much easier to identify with a girl in her panties than it was with a girl who looked like she was just an updated version of the sanitized female nude models who appeared in the classical paintings that one could see in just about every major Art Gallery in the world ... |

The frustration of course was not being allowed to view photographs of what women had got between their legs. Such
pictures obviously existed and as I was a keen amateur photographer, I decided that the best answer was to take my own.
The problem was finding a model.
In the mid 1960's, women's attitudes towards sex and nudity were a lot different to what they are now. I knew that I stood more chance of winning £75,000 on the football pools than I had of persuading any of the girls I knew to even pose for some Spick & Span type pics. Beyond that, my guess was that any local girls who were less inhibited about showing their bodies had probably headed towards the bright lights of places like Soho in the hope of finding fame and fortune ... |

The breakthrough came when I spotted a small advert in the back of the "Amateur Photographer" magazine for a studio with
models for hire in Nottingham, and a phone call confirmed that the resident model would pose nude.
I immediately made a booking and began to make plans for the shoot. I would start with a few Spick & Span style upskirts, then some photographs of the model in her lingerie. Next, I would ask her to take off her bra, and finally to slip off her sexy little panties ... I also began to build up a mental picture of the studio's facilities; not so much the lights, but the backgrounds and props ... like a big double bed and an elegant chaise-longue for the model to pose on. |

The reality was somewhat different, on both counts. The studio was located on Alfred Street in the St. Ann's district of
Nottingham, which then, as now, was not the safest part of the city. Back then the area was the subject of a slum clearance
order, which included the studio. It occupied part of an old lace factory which was due for demolition at any moment. It
may have had some good backgrounds and props in the past but all that was left was a whitewashed brick wall, a Colorama and a stool.
Marie, the resident model, was not quite what I expected either. She was a stunningly attractive dark-eyed brunette with a nice firm figure, but all my careful plans to photograph her taking off her clothes and underwear proved to have been a complete waste of time ... |

She was the "resident" model by virtue of living just round the corner from the studio, so a quick phone call to her home when I
arrived for the shoot and Marie was at the studio in a couple of minutes ...
She arrived wearing a coat, but instead of the matching sexy lingerie set and the suspenders and stockings that I hoped she would have on underneath, Marie was just wearing this pair of loose black and white striped knickers. Nothing else, just the knickers. And that was it. She had no bra with her, no stockings or suspenders, not even another pair of knickers, because the demolition men were approaching fast and as she was due to be rehoused at any moment, so all her clothes and her underwear were packed away ready for the move ... or that was the story she told me. |

With no chance of taking the sort of photographs that I had wanted to take and no contingency plan, my first glamour shoot had not
started at all well, and I was in for more disappointment when Marie took her knickers off because her cunt was completely shaved.
She explained that although she did do glamour work, she preferred to pose nude, and that as a lot of the pictures she posed for were for publication, she shaved her pubes so it was easier for photographers to re-touch them. She also explained that she didn't wear any underwear before a shoot, so that she would not have any underwear marks on her body, and she just wore panties whilst she was walking to the studio. |

Marie proved to be a very experienced model and she seemed to know every trick in the book about not showing too much of her pubes
in front of the camera. But there are only so many pictures that you can take of a girl in the nude, but Marie found a
baby-doll nightdress and matching panties and a straw hat that had been left in the model's changing room. She wasn't too keen on posing
in panties that another girl had worn, but she did, as these pics show ...
In retrospect, I am glad that Marie had shaved pubes because it was over 25 years before I photographed another completely shaved girl. But even more to the point, in 1966 I wasn't the cunt connoisseur that I am today and I did not realise that Marie had a perfect "cameltoe" cunt. I just wish that I had appreciated it more at the time ... |
